Tree Service in Polo Ranch, Fulshear TX

Polo Ranch opened in 2019, so its first live oaks are now at the age where structural pruning does the most good for the least money.

Polo Ranch is a 220-acre community beside FM 359 in Fulshear, built by a single builder on 45, 50 and 60 foot lots, with older hardwoods left standing in the low ground toward the river.

The first homes went up in 2019. A live oak planted then has had time to root in and put on real growth, and that is exactly when it should be pruned for structure. Tree King is based in Pattison and works in Polo Ranch on streets like Chukka Drive, Heguy Pass and Divot Trace.

Why five to seven years is the right time

The tree is established. It has a root system that can support new growth, so it responds well to pruning instead of being set back by it.

The problems are visible. By now you can see which stems are competing to be the top, which limbs are too close together and which ones are headed for the roof, the driveway or the street light.

The cuts are still small. Removing a competing stem the width of a broom handle leaves a wound that closes in a season or two. The same correction in ten years means a cut the size of a dinner plate.

The house is close. On a 45 or 50 foot lot the front-yard oak ends up only a few steps from the roof and the driveway. Directing growth away from them now avoids heavy pruning later.

Where we work around Polo Ranch

We work on every street in Polo Ranch, and the neighborhoods around it: Fulshear Lakes, Fulbrook on Fulshear Creek, Cross Creek Ranch and Weston Lakes.

The older hardwoods along the back of the community are a different job from the front-yard oaks. If one is dropping limbs or leaning toward your fence, call and we will take a look.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Polo Ranch?

Yes. We are in the Fulshear area most days and Polo Ranch is a short drive from our base in Pattison.

How often does a young live oak need pruning?

Every two to three years for roughly the first ten to fifteen years. After that a well-structured tree needs very little beyond deadwood and clearance.

When is the best time to prune live oaks?

Late summer through winter. We avoid February through June when we can because that is when oak wilt spreads most easily, and we seal fresh cuts.
