Taking down a tree is the most dangerous job in tree care, and it is the one where experience matters most. Tree King has been removing trees west of Houston for more than 30 years — close to houses, over fences, beside power lines and in tight backyards where there is no room for mistakes.

We look at the tree, what is around it and where every piece needs to land before a single cut is made. Then we take it down in controlled sections, haul away the wood and debris, and rake the area clean.

What we do

Dead & dying trees

Dead wood gets brittle fast in Texas heat. We remove it before it comes down on its own.

Leaning & hazard trees

Trees leaning toward a roof, driveway or neighbor's yard, or with cracked trunks and split unions.

Trees too close to the house

Roots lifting slabs, limbs rubbing the roof, or a tree that simply outgrew the space.

Full cleanup & haul-off

Logs, brush and debris hauled away. Stump grinding available on the same visit.

When should a tree come down?

Not every problem tree needs to be removed — sometimes a good trim or treatment saves it, and we will tell you if that's the case. Removal usually makes sense when a tree is dead or mostly dead, has a large cavity or crack in the trunk, is leaning more than it used to, has heaving soil at the base, or is causing damage that pruning can't fix.

Common trees we remove around Fulshear and Katy include water oaks near the end of their life, storm-damaged pines, Bradford pears that split apart, and hackberries and Chinese tallows growing where they shouldn't.

Frequently asked questions

How much does tree removal cost?

It depends on the tree's size, where it sits and what is around it. A small yard tree with open access costs far less than a large oak over a house. We give you a clear, upfront price on-site before any work starts.

Do you grind the stump too?

Yes. Stump grinding can be added to any removal, usually on the same visit. See our stump grinding page.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

Most private residential trees in the Houston area don't need a permit, but some cities, HOAs and deed restrictions have their own rules — especially for large protected trees. Check with your HOA if you have one; we're happy to help you figure it out.

Will you damage my lawn?

We plan equipment paths to protect lawns, beds and driveways and use mats where needed. After the job we clean up everything we brought in.
