Hundreds of streets, a live oak in every yard

Tree Service in Tamarron, TX

Tamarron's builder-planted live oaks are old enough now to need real pruning. Tree King gives them good structure and gets the limbs up off the sidewalk and driveway.

Tamarron sits at FM 1463 and Katy Fulshear Road in Fort Bend County, and it has been one of the fastest-selling communities in the country for years. That means street after street of 45, 50 and 60 foot lots, each with a live oak planted in the front yard by the builder.

The earliest sections have been lived in long enough that those oaks are no longer saplings. They are reaching the roofline, leaning over the street and crowding each other across narrow side yards. Tree King is based in Pattison and works in Tamarron regularly.

What we see on Tamarron's live oaks

Forked tops. Most of these trees were never pruned after planting. Two or three stems race each other upward and form a tight fork that is the first thing to split in a storm. The earlier one leader is chosen, the smaller the cut.

Low limbs over pavement. On a 45 or 50 foot lot the canopy reaches the sidewalk, the driveway and the street within a few years. We raise it in stages instead of stripping the trunk bare all at once, which weakens a young tree.

Two trees too close. Front-yard oaks on neighboring lots often end up only a few yards apart. We prune each one so they share the space instead of growing lopsided away from each other.

Left-over stakes and buried root flares. Straps that were never removed cut into the trunk, and trees set too deep in clay grow slowly for years. Both are easy to correct when caught early.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Tamarron?

Yes, regularly. It is a short drive from our base in Pattison, and we also cover Tamarron West.

My live oak was planted by the builder years ago and has never been pruned. Is it too late?

No. It is easier when the tree is small, but a live oak that has been in the ground five or ten years can still be given a single strong leader and well-spaced limbs. It may take two or three light prunings over a few years rather than one heavy one.

When is the best time to prune live oaks?

Late summer through winter. We avoid February through June when we can because that is when oak wilt spreads most easily, and we seal fresh cuts.
